![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() But going forward I can only try to do better, to read better, so this is what led me to Punching The Air. I sobbed for Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana, Korey Wise, and Yusef Salaam (the Exonerated Five who were falsely accused of the assault of a jogger in New York City’s Central Park). If people of colour have to live in fear for their lives in the streets every day I can watch a miniseries that is only going to illicit a fraction of the pain POC suffer through every single day (I also read and watched The Hate U Give, and 13th in the same weekend-more tears but more self education). But as #BLM was hitting our screens with rightful rage once more, I decided I had to be a big girl and face the truth. Admittedly, I had avoided the series for a while as I was not ready to confront the harsh realities and I wanted to protect myself from the hurt I knew I would face. I watched When They See Us at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement when anger and upset was reignited by the murder of George Floyd on the 25th of May 2020. ![]()

Karl ove knausgaard books5/13/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cathrine Sandnes, the 42-year-old editor of the prestigious Oslo journal Samtiden, thought to herself, “What is happening?”īy now the response in that room has become widespread. The space is chilly and over-lit, with the feel of a museum café, but people stayed for two or five or six beers, talking about how much they identified with Knausgaard and telling intimate stories from their own pasts. A huge group packed into the building’s restaurant. The two talked about the books and what it took to write them.Īfterward, almost no one wanted to go home. For nearly two hours, he was interviewed live by another author, Tore Renberg, a friend of his since their days doing student radio together in the early ’90s. The line for the event curled around the corner, and Knausgaard’s appearance in the main auditorium had to be simulcast to other rooms to handle the overflow crowd. ![]() Across its 3,600 pages, Knausgaard recounts the banalities and humiliations of his life, the private moments of pleasure, and those dark thoughts that most people can’t bear to articulate even to themselves. It was December 2009, a few months after his six-book autobiographical series, My Struggle, began publication. Before he quit doing public events in his home country, the Norwegian writer Karl Ove Knausgaard took the stage one night at the House of Literature in Oslo, a stately five-story building across from the Royal Palace. ![]()

Reading Dom dzienny, dorn nocny through the lens of feminist theory brings to surface the central goal of Tokarczuk's text- her aim is to break the hegemony of patriarchy by deconstructing its language. This article proposes a reading of Tokarczuk's 1998 House of Day, House of Night as a feminist text and critiques the English translation, published in 2002 as House of Day, House of Night, for omitting most of Tokarczuk play with gendered language and her challenges to the patriarchal structures of Polish. ![]()
